Wilton Historical Society Calendar

In addition to tours of the Heritage Museum, the Wilton Historical Society offers many interesting activities during the year. These include, for example, the recently concluded Speaker Series on the Bill Of Rights and the current series, Rural Crafts Workshops.

Rural Crafts Series with Ambler Farm
The Wilton Historical Society and Ambler have joined forces to bring you a series of five programs for your winter Sundays. Workshops will be held at sites as noted below and are intended for adult participation. All workshops are from 2-4 pm. The fee for each workshop is $25 and pre-registration is required. Currier and Ives and Their Rivals Exhibit
An exhibit from a private collector of 30 prints by Currier and Ives and others
Dates: February 28 through June 30
Location: Wilton Historical Society, Perry Gallery
Times: Tuesday - Friday: 10:00am - 4:30pm; Saturdays and 2nd & 4th Sundays, 1:00-4:00pm
Cost: Free to members, $5.00 donation is requested from non-members
There has hardly been a more familiar or more beloved group of pictures found throughout our country than the lithographs of Currier & Ives. This exhibit includes prints from Currier & Ives, as well as those of Endicott and Gast, other well-known lithographers of the 19th century.

Do More Expensive Wines Taste Better?
Date: Saturday, March 13, 2010
Time: 7:30-9:30pm
Fee: $75 member/$80 non-member
Ever wondered whether a really expensive bottle of wine is worth the price? You be the judge, as Jo Logiurato of Dancing on Grapes leads you through a series of “blind” taste tests comparing more expensive varieties with their more moderately priced counterparts. Hearty hors d’oeuvres will be served with each course.

Sheep Shearing at Ambler Farm
Date: Saturday, March 20, 2010
Time: 1:00-2:00pm
Fee: Family $10
Join us as Nutmeg and Clover, the two sheep at Ambler Farm, get a haircut! The Wilton Historical Society will offer insight into how wool was processed, first into fiber, then into cloth, during Wilton’s early history.

Kids’ Day: “Charlie Gets His Cloak!”
*FOR GRADES 1-3 ONLY*
Date: Monday, March 22
Time: 1st session: 10am-12noon / 2nd session: 1-3pm
Cost: $8 members/$10 non-members
This workshop brings literature to life in a hands-on exploration of the children’s classic Charlie Needs a Cloak by Tomie dePaola. Through activities and demonstrations, children will participate in step-by-step techniques of how a sheep’s haircut is turned into a warm and beautiful garment. At the conclusion of the workshop the children will take home their own cardboard loom and a miniature version of Charlie’s cloak.

Marionette Show: Jack & the Beanstalk
Performed by No Strings Marionette Company
Date: April 10, Wilton Historical Society
Times: First performance - 4:00 pm
Second performance - 6:00 pm
Cost: $10 members / $15 non-members
Enjoy this well-loved tale retold with all the magic and mischief that marionettes can muster! A sense of adventure, optimism and three magic beans catapult Jack high into the sky where his destiny awaits. The event includes an interactive sing along and an intimate question and answer session where everyone gets a closer look at the puppeteers trade.
