Often referred to as “MLK Day” and observed on the third Monday of January each year, Martin Luther King Junior Day is a federal holiday in the United States marking the birthday of the renown activist for civil rights.
On Saturday, January 13, from 11 am to 12 pm, the Wilton Historical Society will hold a Watercolor Art-Peace Dove Workshop, where children will try their hand at a beginners’ watercolor project incorporating a peace dove motif. The morning will conclude with a snack – participants will get to decorate and eat their own peace dove sugar cookie!
Suggested for ages 6-10. Members: $10 per child; Non-members $15 per child.

Martin Luther King Jr. spent the summer of 1944 working on a tobacco farm in Simsbury, Connecticut. During this time, it was common at that time for young African American students from the South to work in Connecticut’s tobacco fields to make extra money.
